You will work directly with the chef and help with all aspects of the restaurant-training, budgeting, menu planning etc. This is a great opportunity to work with a talented chef in a great environment. About the restaurant:
We are a small 50 seat BYOB restaurant that is open Wed-Sat from 5:00-9:30 and Sunday from 4:00-8:00. The chef cooks everything to order and everything is made in house. The menu changes every day. The focus is on fresh, local and organic ingredients.
About the position:
What we need is someone who can take control of the front of the house and make the experience great for the customers. We need someone who will guide the servers and hostesses also make sure there is communication between the front of house and back of the house during service. Also someone that will jump in and help with anything that needs to get done –run food/clear food from tables etc…
You must also be comfortable with using computers and have a strong grasp on spelling and grammar. We print the menus every day and if there is a change it must be typed up and checked over to make sure it is correct since it will be in front of a customer. There are times when things may change in the middle of service so you have to make a change to menu and reprint. You also must enter the menu into the POS system every day and make sure that the items are spelled correctly and reflecting the correct price.
This is a great position for someone looking to grow with a company. We have been in business for 3 years and there is still a lot to accomplish. Chef has gotten a lot of accolades from various newspapers, magazines and online news. The food is very different from the typical American-Italian. You will learn a lot about seasonal and authentic cuisine. Chef likes to get input on dishes as well so it is also important that you are interactive with guests.
Other facets of the job would be handling employee scheduling, hiring and training, private party scheduling and menu selection. Before service, going over the menu with servers, checking tables and stations on the Ipad to make sure of the flow of reservations and checking reservations for VIP/regular guests, Birthdays, Anniversaries etc…, and making sure servers know. During service it is the manager’s job to close out the checks and keep organized to pay out servers at end of night. Only the manager can close checks and handle any cash transactions. Helping with marketing efforts (ie: social media posts-facebook, Instagram etc…), Being aware of reviews on various sites OpenTable, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Facebook and sharing with the team.
